Book a hog roast in Banbury

Wedding hog roast near Banbury

For the wedding breakfast, a hog roast becomes a plated meal: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, with china available on request. We serve salads, crackling and spit-roast lamb, and typical bookings are for relaxed, low-key weddings and second-day get-togethers.

For a wedding in Banbury, a marquee in a family garden or a hall with grounds keeps things personal. A hog roast fits that style. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will give you the allergen information for every dish before booking.

Planning the cooking spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Flat ground outside the reception for the roaster
  • Step-free access for our equipment
  • A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

The process

From setting up to the last roll, we look after the food, so you can get on with your wedding. In Banbury, midsummer sunset is about 9:30pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

Working with your venue

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we will confirm what we can provide.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

FAQs for Banbury

How far is Banbury from London?

Roughly 66 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Could you cook in People's Park?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Will our venue allow a hog roast?

It depends on the venue. Ask your venue early, and we’ll work with them on the details.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will confirm the space with your quote.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will confirm everything in writing.

Is mains power needed?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. Power can help with lighting after dark.

Do you serve the food?

No need for your own staff: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is generally easier.

Allergies and dietary needs

Rolls and stuffing usually contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list

Evening food typically goes out an hour or two after the first dance, timed with you in advance.

Add spit-roast lamb for a second roast.

Perfect for your wedding in Banbury

You do not need a kitchen, which suits marquees, barns and gardens.

However big or small the event in Banbury, a hog roast feeds a crowd well. Bookings often include:

The menu, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed goes into rolls or onto plates alongside the pork.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls make a hog roast easy to eat anywhere. Gluten-free rolls can be provided on request.

Prices and what affects them

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Time on site
  • Numbers
  • Crockery choices
  • Site access

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Details that help

These are the details we need:
