Common questions in Hardham

We are gathering after a service at St Botolph's Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Do you come out to small places like Hardham?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Do you serve the food?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Can you cater in Hardham?

Yes, Hardham is in our area. Send us the address and we’ll confirm availability.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

Prices and what affects them

The biggest factors are:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Distance from us
  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • Whether you want china

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

Details that help

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Your date and serving time
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Roughly how many people

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so you can compare caterers fairly. Use our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list

Running late? A slow roast can wait a little. Just keep us informed.

Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in evening photos.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to other evening food, carving serves a lot of people fast. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why Hardham hosts choose us

  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Sides to make it a full meal

What comes off the roaster

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls make a hog roast easy to eat anywhere. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

How the day works

The roaster cooks outdoors, under a gazebo on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. For a summer wedding in Hardham, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Before we arrive

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
