Wedding hog roast in Highleigh

How our wedding hog roast works in Highleigh

A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: it can be held for a while once cooked, so a long speech won’t ruin the food. For farm weddings and evening receptions, we’ll put together a menu of spit-roast lamb, halloumi skewers and new potatoes for your guests.

Near Highleigh, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. We bring plates as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

Looking after everyone

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card

You won’t have to think about the food. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.

What happens on the day

Carving is part of the show: our chef carves the pork in front of the queue, with crackling for everyone who wants it. In Highleigh, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

How to prepare

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

How to compare hog roast caterers

Prices and what affects them

Each price is built from:

  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Crockery choices

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What we need to know

Good details mean a good quote. Please include:

  • Your date and serving time
  • Dietary requirements
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Anything the venue has asked for

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Use our quote form.

Highleigh: your questions answered

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Is Highleigh too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What’s included?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

What happens in bad weather?

We roast under cover, so the food is not affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

What happens after service?

Our staff clear the serving area, and we take our equipment with us.

What space does the roaster need?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll confirm the space with your quote.

Can you do gluten-free?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Can we have a hog roast as the main meal?

It works well as a relaxed main meal, with lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside.
