Wedding hog roast for Lower Eashing

Wedding hog roast in Lower Eashing, slow-roasted on site

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: people gather round as the chef carves. It feels like an occasion. We are frequently asked to cater marquee weddings and the day after the wedding, with rotisserie chicken, new potatoes and spit-roast lamb.

Rural weddings around Lower Eashing have a magic of their own, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp.

Questions from Lower Eashing

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Mary: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Do you cater at venues in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Where does the hog roast go?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will check it with you before booking.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

Hours rather than minutes. We will confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Where do you cook at a marquee wedding?

The roaster stays outdoors on level ground.

When should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Send your date and we will check.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Ask us for a quote.

What happens after service?

Our staff clear the serving area, so you are not left with the mess.

Full catering or machine hire?

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

What a hog roast costs

Each price is built from:

  • How many people are eating
  • Crockery choices
  • Menu choices and extras
  • The date and time of year

When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

Details that help

Here’s what we’ll ask:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • An estimate of numbers

Planning ahead? Popular dates fill up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Send us your date for a quote: send us your details through our quote form.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Everything goes into a soft roll, perfect for eating on the move. Ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them.

Roast pork

Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, and served hot.

Looking after everyone

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before

We’re on site for much of the day, out of the way, by the cooking area.

Add spit-roast lamb for a second roast.

Step by step

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin crisps into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. Golden-hour photos in Lower Eashing at midsummer come around 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
