Wedding hog roast in Nutbourne, carved to order

After hours of dancing, guests are hungry. Hog roast rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling do exactly that, and they’re easy to eat with a drink in hand. Whether it’s vow renewals and blessings and farm weddings, we will put together a menu of crackling, new potatoes and rotisserie chicken.

There’s something special about a country wedding near Nutbourne, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

How the day works

We get there well ahead of service, since slow roasting can’t be rushed. Your guests will smell it long before they see it. In Nutbourne, evening wedding food frequently coincides with dusk: sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Getting ready for the day

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Think about shelter for your guests

Questions from Nutbourne

Do you come out to small places like Nutbourne?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Is Nutbourne close to London?

Roughly 57 miles from the centre of London.

Do you provide china?

Plates come as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we will add it to the quote.

What’s included?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Do you need power or water?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat.

What about coeliacs?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You will get allergen details for everything.

Where does the hog roast go?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A photo helps.

What comes off the roaster

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb is popular alongside the pork, and handy for anyone who does not eat pork.

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and generally costs less per head. It still feels special. • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed

We’re on site for much of the day, out of the way, by the cooking area.

China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, quoted separately.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
