For the wedding breakfast, a hog roast becomes a plated meal: carved pork with salads, new potatoes or roast potatoes, with china available on request. Whether it’s second-day get-togethers and rustic barn receptions, we’ll put together a menu of rotisserie chicken, carved roast pork and halloumi skewers.

For a wedding in Poplar, the venue’s rules decide where a hog roast can go. Ask about a courtyard or garden, and we will work through it together. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Planners, venues and businesses

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to other evening food, a hog roast serves a crowd quickly once carving starts. A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

FAQs for Poplar

What’s the nearest station to Poplar?

Canary Wharf station, in Poplar itself.

We are gathering after a service at St Peter's Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Do we need extra food?

Quantities are based on your guest list, and the quote lists everything.

Can we add a second roast?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the hog.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

We do, if you’re happy to roast and carve yourself. We will explain the details with your quote.

Can you work around our timings?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will adjust.

Is crockery included?

Plates are included. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately

If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Just keep us informed.

For a sit-down meal, ask for china, quoted separately.

Step by step

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. At midsummer, sunset in Poplar is about 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September.

  1. Tell us whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. The venue and we agree where the roaster goes.
  4. We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
  5. Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.

Before we arrive

  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster

What comes off the roaster

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. Gluten-free rolls can be provided on request.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, so halloumi and vegetable skewers ensure they’re not left with just salad.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

We do not use a fixed price list, because every wedding is different. What matters most:

  • Time on site
  • Plates or china
  • Numbers
  • Distance from us

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

What to tell us

For a quick, accurate price, send us:

  • A picture of the cooking area
  • The date and time of the event
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Dietary requirements

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the wedding is and roughly how many. A photo of the cooking area helps. Use our quote form.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
