Wedding hog roast for Rudmore

Planning a wedding hog roast in Rudmore

Rudmore is about 1 mile north-west of Portsmouth, in Portsmouth. Wherever your wedding is in Rudmore, we can bring the roaster, as long as there’s an outdoor spot to cook. Rudmore is one of 19 places in Portsmouth where we cater. Our bookings stretch from Rudmore to Southampton (about 15 miles away).

For guests travelling by train, Portsmouth & Southsea station, about 1.1 miles south, is the nearest station. Alexandra Park can make a pretty photo stop, but check its rules for wedding groups first. With the coast within about 3 miles, many venues here have sea views. We’ll think about shelter from sea breezes.

Anywhere in PO2 and PO1, we can roast on site for your guests. Local streets include Knox Road, Wharf Road and Croft Road; a wedding on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. Rudmore sits on or near the M275 and A2047, so getting the roaster to your wedding is simple. Wedding hog roast near Rudmore

A hog roast suits relaxed weddings in Rudmore: proper food, carved fresh, with plenty for everyone. We serve and tidy up, so the day runs smoothly. Popular choices include halloumi skewers, salads and carved roast pork, and we’re regularly asked to cater second-day get-togethers and home weddings.

For a smaller place like Rudmore, a garden or farm wedding is frequently the dream. We need level ground, cover and a way in. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Rudmore questions

We are gathering after a service at The Grapes: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Could you cook in Alexandra Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Can you cook inside the marquee?

The roaster stays outdoors on level ground.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Is a hog roast enough for a wedding?

We will plan quantities from your numbers, and the quote lists everything.

Do you need power or water?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

Step by step

We roast under cover, so a shower won’t spoil the food. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. In Rudmore, evening wedding food frequently coincides with dusk: about 9:20pm at midsummer, 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

Getting ready for the day

Planning for dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten

You won’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours before serving, roast through the day and carve on cue.

Choose sides to make it a full meal.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Distance from us

Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

Getting an accurate quote

These are the details we need:

  • A photo of the cooking area
  • Where the event is
  • Your menu choices
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

We price every booking individually, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote: use our quote form.

Full catering or machine hire?

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

For planners, venues and organisers

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

Booking for a club or group? A single point of contact keeps things simple, particularly when timings shift.

Before you choose a spot

Most outdoor spaces can work with a little planning. Here’s what helps:

  • A way in for the roaster
  • Approval from the venue or marquee supplier
  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.
