Wedding hog roast in Sheet, slow-roasted on site

The carving station becomes a focal point: people gather round as the chef carves. It is food and a bit of theatre. We are often asked to cater post-wedding gatherings and small, informal weddings, serving halloumi skewers, carved roast pork and rotisserie chicken.

Rural weddings around Sheet have a magic of their own, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

The process

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. At a December wedding in Sheet, it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so plan a lit path from the party to the food, while a June wedding has light until about 9:20pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Preparing for the day

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Common questions in Sheet

Is Sheet close to London?

About 49 miles from central London, and well within our area.

What’s the nearest station to Sheet?

Petersfield station, about 1.1 miles south-west of the centre.

Will our venue allow a hog roast?

Check with the venue first: some welcome outside caterers, others do not. We will talk to them about the cooking spot.

What’s included?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Is mains power needed?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. Power can help with lighting after dark.

How far ahead should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it’s always worth asking: send us your details through our quote form.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we do not offer halal meat.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten

On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

For a sit-down meal, ask for china, quoted separately.

What we serve, dish by dish

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and we break it up so everyone gets a piece.

Spit-roast lamb

With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which suits bigger events.

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

Perfect for your wedding in Sheet

Evening guests love hot food, especially after dancing.

We’re booked for all kinds of occasions in Sheet and nearby. Some of the most common are:

Catered or do it yourself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Why choose a hog roast in Sheet?

Next to a cold buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time late at night. Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

Planning the cooking spot

Most outdoor spaces can work if a few things are right. Here’s what helps:

  • Permission for outside catering
  • Flat ground outside the reception for the roaster
  • A route to wheel equipment to the spot

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.
