Wedding hog roast for Slaugham

Wedding hog roast in Slaugham, slow-roasted on site

Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t available. Popular choices include new potatoes, spit-roast lamb and salads, and we’re regularly asked to cater marquee weddings and weddings in a family garden.

A wedding in a small place like Slaugham often means a field, a barn or a family garden. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. We plan the timings around your day, working back from when you want to eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

Looking after everyone

Rolls and stuffing normally contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten

If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Just keep us informed.

Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.

What a hog roast costs

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • How many people are eating
  • Crockery choices
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

What we need to know

To check the date and the space, tell us:

  • A photo of the cooking area
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so it is easy to compare like for like. Use our quote form.

For event organisers in Slaugham

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

If you are booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We will fit in with site rules.

Before you choose a spot

Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:

  • Power for lights in the evening
  • A short walk from the serving station to the guests
  • A way in for the roaster

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

How the day works

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We agree exactly where before the day. Evening food at a Slaugham wedding frequently goes out just as the light fades: sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Before we arrive

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
