Slow-roasted pork in Stanmore

Wedding hog roast near Stanmore

Your venue and we agree the cooking spot and timings well before the day, so on the day everything is in place. Typical bookings include marquee receptions and barn and farm weddings, serving halloumi skewers, carved roast pork and spit-roast lamb.

London weddings around Stanmore frequently mean a reception at a hired venue, a pub with a garden or a family home. We need an outdoor cooking area clear of the venue, which many London venues cannot offer, so ask early. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

How the day works

It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and get on with roasting and serving. In Stanmore, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Preparing for the day

  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Step-free access for our equipment
  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • Light near the carving station after dark

Stanmore is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

Stanmore questions

Can you cater after a service at Church of St John?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is normally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Can you get a hog roast into a London garden in Stanmore?

Often, if there’s a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use. Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We work back from when you want to eat, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Will guests be full?

With sides, it’s a full wedding breakfast; in the evening, rolls on their own work well.

Can we add a second roast?

Lamb and chicken are both available alongside the hog.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

The biggest factors are:

  • Crockery choices
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Numbers
  • The date and time of year

The main driver is numbers: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

When you enquire, it helps to include:

  • Your date and serving time
  • Dietary requirements
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Your menu choices

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Use our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed

We are on site for much of the day, out of the way, by the cooking area.

Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
