Slow-roasted pork in The Frenches

About our wedding hog roast in The Frenches

Couples book a hog roast for the main meal, the evening or both. The hog roasts slowly at your venue through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue. For rustic barn receptions and evening food after the first dance, we will put together a menu of spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken and carved roast pork for your guests.

Rural weddings around The Frenches have a magic of their own, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Our staff serve and clear, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

How the day works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. Golden-hour photos in The Frenches at midsummer come around 9:25pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Getting a price

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the wedding is and roughly how many. A photo of the cooking area helps. Send us your details through our quote form.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:

  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before

On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

Some couples add lights around the serving area; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

The Frenches questions

Which station is closest to The Frenches?

The closest is Mottisfont & Dunbridge station, roughly 2.5 miles away.

Is The Frenches too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Do you serve the food?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Can the hog roast be for the evening?

Of course. We will time it around your first dance and band.

What happens after service?

We pack everything away after service, so you’re not left with the mess.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

Many couples do exactly that, with alternatives for non-pork eaters.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Is there a non-pork option?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

Full catering or machine hire?

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote depends on:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Numbers
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

Getting an accurate quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Rough numbers
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • What the outdoor space is like

Not sure how many to cater for? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, then confirm closer to the date. Send us your details through our quote form.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a wedding barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together without batches coming off a grill. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

What you get with us

  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
