Slow-roasted pork in Winkfield
How our wedding hog roast works in Winkfield
As a main meal, the hog roast is served on plates: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, on china if you’d like. We are often asked to cater garden weddings at home and post-wedding gatherings, serving halloumi skewers, salads and carved roast pork.
Near Winkfield, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. That’s where a hog roast shines: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Let us know about access and ground. Timings are planned around your wedding, working back from when you want to eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

Looking after everyone
Some guests won’t eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:
- Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
- Note which guests do not eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
- Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
- Confirm final numbers a week or so before
Our staff serve and clear quietly, so the party carries on around us.
China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, quoted separately.
Organising for someone else?
Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.
Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.
About the food
Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)
Some guests will be vegetarian, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.
Stuffing and apple sauce
Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing are the traditional pairing. Note that stuffing typically contains gluten.
Catered or do it yourself?
DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is usually easier.
Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.
The process
When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. In Winkfield, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, which means an evening hog roast is generally served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:55pm.
- Tell us whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.

- We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
- We carve and serve, then clear away.
How to prepare
- Give us a contact number for the day
- Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
- Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in Winkfield
Is Winkfield too small for a hog roast?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.
We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Mary: can you cater?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.
When should we book?
Summer Saturdays and December book up first. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we will check.
What’s the price?
It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we’re on site. Send us the details and we will quote.
Do you do evening food?
Yes. We’ll agree a serving time around your running order.
Where does the hog roast go?
Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. A picture helps.
Will guests be full?
For the main meal, add sides such as salads and potatoes; in the evening, rolls on their own work well.
Can you cook inside the marquee?
Outside, under its own cover, a safe distance from the marquee. Serving inside is fine where allowed.
- Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
- Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
- Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
- Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
