Catered or do it yourself?

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

How it works

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We agree exactly where before the day. In December, it’s dark in Radnage by about 3:55pm, so even a late-afternoon Christmas party needs lighting by the roaster and the serving table. We start in daylight and cook into the dark.

  1. Book early for December.
  2. You get a quote with the menu.
  3. We set up under cover in daylight.
  4. We serve hot rolls and turkey if you’ve chosen it.
  5. We clear the serving area and go.

Before we arrive

  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

Working with your venue

If the event is on someone else’s land, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so it’s worth asking first. We will liaise with them on access and set-up.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Keep vegetarian food labelled
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list

A cooked roast holds for a while, so keep us posted.

Lights around the carving station add atmosphere.

What a hog roast costs

The price comes down to:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The date and time of year
  • Numbers
  • How long the roast and service take

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

What to tell us

When you enquire, it helps to include:

  • Your menu choices
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • An estimate of numbers

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We’ll check the date and send a quote. Use our quote form.

A hog roast compared with other options

You can combine: turkey and pork together. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.
