Planning the cooking spot

It is worth planning the cooking area in advance. The ideal spot has:

  • Flat ground in a car park or courtyard
  • Sign-off for outside caterers
  • Shelter for the team

As a London location, Duckett's Green is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Corporate hog roast in Duckett's Green, carved to order

Instead of booking a restaurant, bring the food to the team. Keep everyone on site with a hog roast. Typical bookings include new premises openings and thank-you lunches, with hog roast rolls, spit-roast lamb and salads.

London work events in Duckett's Green frequently run to a tight lunch break, so we roast ahead and carve fast. Tell us about site access and security. Timings are planned around your staff event, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

A hog roast or other catering?

If it is for clients, add china, sides and a second roast for a more polished feel. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Why us?

  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Served at the time you choose

Take a look at our prices page and the cost guide.

The process

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. After-work summer events in Duckett's Green have light until about 9:20pm at midsummer and 8:55pm in late May, which suits a team barbecue-style evening. In late September, the light goes at about 7:05pm.

  1. Tell us where, when, how many and when you eat.
  2. We confirm the site details and send a price.
  3. The roast starts early on site.
  4. We serve within your break.
  5. We tidy up and leave.

How to prepare

  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

Organising for someone else?

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

If you are organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

Should I cook it myself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Looking after everyone

Some staff won’t eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Keep alternatives clearly labelled
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers

Name someone in facilities or reception for the day, so we can find you quickly.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Duckett's Green questions

Can you do a hog roast in Ducketts Common?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, usually the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Which station is closest to Duckett's Green?

The closest is Hornsey station, roughly 0.7 miles away.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is usually fine if the venue is happy.

Can you serve a fixed lunch break?

We plan the roast around your break. Rolls keep service quick.

How long does the roast need?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

How do we prepare?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We bring everything else.

What’s included?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

Prices and what affects them

We don’t use a fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • Menu choices and extras
  • Crockery choices
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • How easy it is to reach the spot

For larger numbers, a hog roast is typically good value, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What to tell us

When you get in touch, please mention:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Rough numbers
  • The address or postcode

It’s easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. We’ll reply with a clear price and what’s included. Use our quote form.

  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
