DIY versus a catered hog roast

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

How the day works

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. Open days in Stoke Row normally finish in daylight, but in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so late events need lighting.

  1. Send us the site, date, numbers and break time.
  2. We check access and gas rules and quote.
  3. The roast starts early on site.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve on time.
  5. We pack away and go.

Before we arrive

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready

Working with your venue

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it is worth asking first. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

What a hog roast costs

  • Distance from us

The main driver is numbers: the price per head typically falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.
