Whitehawk: your questions answered

Can you roast near the sea around Whitehawk?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Could you cook in Whitehawk Hill?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Ask them first.

Do you cover Whitehawk?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, including Whitehawk and Brighton and Hove. Send us the address for a quote.

What will our facilities team need?

Tell us what your site asks for, and we will tell you what we can send.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Do you provide china?

Plates come as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Can you feed staff and families?

Yes, a hog roast suits open days, with chicken and vegetarian options for visitors.

How much does a hog roast cost?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Send us the details and we will quote.

About the food

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed goes into rolls or onto plates alongside the pork.

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.

Planning for dietary needs

Some staff won’t eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Share the allergen information with the team
  • Find out how many do not eat pork, for the alternatives
  • Halal is not offered, so arrange it separately if needed

On the day, we arrive early and set up where agreed, and the roast cooks through the morning.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a barbecue run by staff, nobody from the team is stuck cooking. Compare like for like: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

What you get with us

  • Planned to your running order
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

Catered or do it yourself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

The process

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. After-work summer events in Whitehawk have light until about 9:15pm at midsummer and 8:50pm in late May, so an after-work hog roast works well in summer. In late September, the light goes at about 7:05pm.

  1. Send us the site, date, numbers and break time.
  2. We confirm the site details and send a price.
  3. The roast starts early on site.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve on time.
  5. We pack away and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand

Prices and what affects them

We work out each quote from:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Numbers
  • Crockery choices
  • Season and day of the week

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • An estimate of numbers
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Where the event is
  • Your menu choices

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We’ll check the date and send a quote. Fill in our quote form.
