About our film set catering in Ashley

Wrap parties suit a hog roast too. We’re often asked to cater historic house shoots and wrap parties, with halloumi skewers, new potatoes and a vegan option.

Rural locations near Ashley can be a long way from food, so hot food at base is a big help. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

FAQs for Ashley

Which station is closest to Ashley?

The closest is Mottisfont & Dunbridge station, roughly 5 miles away.

Is Ashley too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Do you come to Ashley?

Yes, Ashley is in our area. Tell us the venue or postcode and we’ll confirm availability.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We’ll confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

What about locations off the beaten track?

Share the route to base and we’ll plan the journey.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.

Where do you set up on a shoot?

Not much: a level area at base.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.

How we price a hog roast for the crew

Each price is built from:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • Travel to Ashley
  • Time on site
  • Numbers

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

What to tell us

To check the date and the space, we will need:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Your menu choices
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

We need a few details to quote: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Send us your details through our quote form.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a full location catering unit, a hog roast suits single days and smaller crews. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why book with us

  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Carved by our chef in front of your crew

Take a look at our prices page or our hog roast cost guide.

For event organisers in Ashley

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Planning the cooking spot

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. Check these:

  • A safe distance from kit
  • A level area at base
  • A contact in production

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

From the roaster

  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Salads
  • Hog roast rolls
  • New potatoes
  • Stuffing and apple sauce

How it works

From setting up to the last roll, we look after the food, so you can enjoy your shoot. Late-September shoots near Ashley lose the light at about 7:10pm, so a late wrap needs lighting at base.

  1. We start with the location, call times and numbers.
  2. We check the route and send a price.
  3. Our position and arrival are agreed in advance.
  4. When lunch is called, we carve and serve quickly.
  5. Afterwards we clear our spot at base.

Before we arrive

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand

Diets, allergies and alternatives

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Keep vegetarian food labelled
  • Collect crew dietary needs from the call sheet
  • Count crew needing an alternative
  • Halal is not offered

We get to base first thing, so the roast is ready by lunch.

A second meat widens the menu.

About the food

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Add salads, coleslaw and potatoes to make it a proper meal.

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
