Hog roast hire in Basted, slow-roasted on site
We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it is served. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. Typical bookings include gatherings after a funeral and summer garden parties, with salads, spit-roast lamb and crackling.
In a hamlet or village like Basted, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.
What we serve, dish by dish
Stuffing and apple sauce
Apple sauce brings sweetness and sharpness go with the pork perfectly. Stuffing normally contains gluten.
Roast pork
Our chef carves the pork as it is needed, which keeps it hot and moist.
Perfect for your event in Basted

Basted: your questions answered
Do you come out to small places like Basted?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.
Can you cater after a service at The Church of the Good Shepherd?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is normally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.
Do we need a big space?
Many gardens are big enough, and a way to wheel the equipment through. A photo helps us check.
Do we need to provide electricity?
No, the roast is cooked on gas. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.
What space does the roaster need?
A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.
Who serves?
You don’t need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.
Can you cater for vegetarians?
There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.
Do you bring plates?
Plates are included. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.
Planning a hog roast in Basted
Basted is about 5 miles east of Sevenoaks, in Kent. Events in Basted are part of our patch, as well as the surrounding area. We cover 922 places in Kent. Our bookings stretch from Basted to London (23 miles away).
If you had Ivy Hatch Nature Reserve in mind, ask the council or landowner first: we cannot simply set up a roaster in a public park. If you are organising a summer fair for a school like Borough Green Primary School, a hog roast is a crowd-pleaser. The Kent Downs National Landscape is within about 7 miles of Basted, and some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles on site. Check your venue’s rules on outside caterers.
For events in TN15, we just need to know where the roaster can cook and roughly how many guests. Local streets include Basted Mill and Plough Hill; an event on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. If your venue is just outside Basted, we also cover Claygate Cross (1 mile south-east), Crouch (1 mile south-east), Borough Green (1 mile north), Platt (1 mile north-east) and Plaxtol (1 mile south). Larger places within reach include Maidstone (10 miles east), Dartford (12 miles north), Sevenoaks (5 miles west), Royal Tunbridge Wells (10 miles south), Gravesend (11 miles north) and Tonbridge (6 miles south).
A little further out are Ightham Court (1.3 miles north-west) and Sevenoaks Hospital (4.8 miles west).
- Nearby schools include Wrotham School (1.4 miles north) and Wrotham School (1.4 miles north)
- Local pubs include The Plough Public House (less than half a mile south)
Catered or do it yourself?
DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is usually easier.
Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

Read how we price and what a hog roast costs.
What a hog roast costs
Each price is built from:
- Whether you want china
- Access to the cooking area
- Numbers
- How long the roast and service take
Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.
Getting an accurate quote
Good details mean a good quote. Please include:
- Any venue rules
- Which meats and sides you’d like
- The venue or postcode
- What the outdoor space is like
To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Send us your details through our quote form.
The process
When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. By late September, sunset in Basted is around 7:00pm, and in December it’s nearer 3:55pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.
- First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
- We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
- We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
- We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
- We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.
Preparing for the day
- Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
- Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
- Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote is simple: date, place, numbers and serving time. You will get a clear quote listing what’s included. Use our quote form.

Working with your venue
Venues often have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.
Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we’ll confirm what we can provide.
- Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
- Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
- Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
- Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
