About our hog roast hire in Burwash Common

With hog roast hire, the cooking happens at your event, which means it is carved hot, with crisp crackling. Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options can go alongside. Whether it’s sports clubs and societies and weddings, day or evening, we can cook salads, hog roast rolls and coleslaw and more.

In a small place like Burwash Common, a hog roast often goes in a field, a farmyard or a big garden. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm, level ground matters most. Our staff serve and clear, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

What comes off the roaster

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

For vegans, there is a vegan burger or sausage in a roll, so everyone has something hot.

A hog roast compared with other options

The obvious catch is that a hog roast is pork. That is why we offer lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers and a vegan option. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

Why book with us

How it works

On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Around midsummer it stays light in Burwash Common until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

What the cooking area needs

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot
  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Working with your venue

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We will liaise with them on access and set-up.

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

Catered or do it yourself?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

Common questions in Burwash Common

We are gathering after a service at St Philip's Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

Is Burwash Common close to London?

About 40 miles from central London, and well within our area.

How soon do you get booked up?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we’ll check.

Can you do gluten-free?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Can we have lamb or chicken?

Pork is the classic, and you can add spit-roast lamb or rotisserie chicken. Vegetarian and vegan options are available too.

How big a hog will we need?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

Do you serve the crackling?

Of course: the skin turns to crackling and everyone gets some.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
