About our wedding hog roast in Compton
Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat. Typical bookings include relaxed, low-key weddings and blessings and renewals, serving salads, new potatoes and carved roast pork.
Rural weddings around Compton have a magic of their own, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding
A few things make the biggest difference to the price:
- Menu choices and extras
- Access to the cooking area
- Plates or china
- The journey to the venue
The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Questions from Compton
Could you cook in Moor Park?
Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Ask them first.
Do you come out to small places like Compton?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.
How soon do you get booked up?
The earlier the better for popular dates. But it is always worth asking: fill in our quote form.
Do you serve the food?
We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.
Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?
We do, if you’re happy to roast and carve yourself. We will explain the details with your quote.
Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?
No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.
How long does a hog roast take to cook?
Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.
What’s included?
Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.
What comes off the roaster
Rotisserie chicken
Chicken from the rotisserie gives people a non-pork choice, roasted until golden.
Rolls and gluten-free rolls
Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, with gluten-free rolls on request.
Allergies and dietary needs
With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:
- Put a dietary question on the invitation
- Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
- Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
- Give final numbers in good time
For evening food, we carve as the dancing gets going, timed with you in advance.
Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.
A hog roast or other catering?
Compared with a cold evening buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time late at night. Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address for an accurate figure.
Why us?
- Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
- Fresh carving at the serving station
- Cooked on the day, low and slow
- An itemised quote
Read our prices page and our hog roast cost guide.
Should I cook it myself?
The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.
You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.
The process
A typical booking goes like this: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the roast cooks gently through the day, and our chef carves it when you are ready. Winter weddings in Compton are dark by about 3:55pm, so the route from the reception to the hog roast needs lighting, while a June wedding has light until about 9:20pm.
- Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
- We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
- We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
- The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
- Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.
Before we arrive
- Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
- Choose someone to meet us on arrival
- Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
