Wedding hog roast in Little Kingshill, slow-roasted on site

As a main meal, the hog roast is served on plates: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, with china available on request. For intimate weddings and evening food after the first dance, we can cook rotisserie chicken, crackling and spit-roast lamb for your guests.

Near Little Kingshill, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Plates come as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

Prices and what affects them

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • How long the roast and service take
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Travel to Little Kingshill

When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Useful details:

  • The address or postcode
  • The date and time of the event
  • Your menu choices
  • Roughly how many people

Busy weekends book up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Tell us your date and we will check it: send us your details through our quote form.

Should I cook it myself?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Not everyone eats pork, so plan an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed

For evening food, we carve as the dancing gets going, timed with you in advance.

How it works

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. For a summer wedding in Little Kingshill, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Tell us whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. You get a quote listing menu, staff and plates.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Let us know about tight access

A hog roast compared with other options

A common mix is a plated meal followed by an evening hog roast; others make the hog roast the main meal. For larger numbers, a hog roast is usually good value, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Little Kingshill questions

Is Little Kingshill too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How far is Little Kingshill from London?

About 29 miles from central London.

What if things run late?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Where will the roaster go at our wedding?

The roaster stays outdoors on level ground, and we agree the spot with your venue.

Do you serve the food?

No need for your own staff: we carve, serve and tidy up.

How do you work out quantities?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will talk it through when we quote.

Can you roast in the rain?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you’re happy to roast and carve yourself. We’ll explain the details with your quote.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
