Full catering or machine hire?

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Wedding hog roast in Little Portugal, slow-roasted on site

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It feels like an occasion. For barn and farm weddings and relaxed, low-key weddings, we’ll put together a menu of crackling, spit-roast lamb and salads for your guests.

Couples in Little Portugal frequently hold the reception at a local venue or at home. The roaster needs an outdoor spot under cover, away from the building, which many London venues can’t offer, so ask early. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates, with no surprises on the day.

Questions from Little Portugal

Can you get a hog roast into a London garden in Little Portugal?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard generally works. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we will advise.

Could you cook in Larkhall Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Is there a non-pork option?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat.

Can we offer lamb too?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the hog.

How much will it be?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we’re on site. Send us the details and we’ll quote.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We’ll bring the rest.

Do venues allow outside hog roasts?

Your venue decides: rules vary. We will sort the details with them.

Do we need extra food?

With sides, it’s a full wedding breakfast; in the evening, rolls on their own work well.

Where the roaster can go in Little Portugal

Most outdoor spaces can work with a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Light near the carving station after dark
  • Clear space away from the marquee and any branches
  • A route to wheel equipment to the spot

As a London location, Little Portugal is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

What affects the price in Little Portugal

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How many people are eating
  • Menu choices and extras
  • The date and time of year
  • How long the roast and service take

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Getting an accurate quote

These are the details we need:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Your date and serving time
  • Rough numbers

The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

Working with your venue

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

Why choose a hog roast in Little Portugal?

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and normally costs less per head. It still feels like a feast. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

What you get with us

  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too

Take a look at our prices page or what a hog roast costs.

Looking after everyone

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

We’re on site for much of the day, working quietly in the background.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

Step by step

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We agree exactly where before the day. In Little Portugal, evening wedding food often coincides with dusk: about 9:20pm at midsummer, 8:50pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
