Planning an event in Lockerley?

Lockerley: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Lockerley?

Mottisfont & Dunbridge station, about 1.2 miles east of the centre.

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St John: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is typically served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

How soon do you get booked up?

Popular dates go early. But do ask even at short notice: send us your details through our quote form.

Where does the hog roast go?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a photo if you’re unsure.

When do you start roasting?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

Do you do evening food?

Yes, evening food is very popular. Hot pork rolls are perfect late in the evening.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Ask us for a quote.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

Yes. We serve it on plates with salads and potatoes, with china available, with our staff serving.

A wedding hog roast can be the wedding breakfast, the evening food or both. The hog roasts slowly at your venue through the afternoon, then carve at the time you’ve set. We serve rotisserie chicken, new potatoes and salads, and typical bookings are for wedding breakfasts and farm weddings.

Near Lockerley, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. That’s where a hog roast shines: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Some ideas:

  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

Running late? A slow roast can wait a little. Just keep us informed.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Planners, venues and businesses

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Space well clear of tents and trees
  • Approval from the venue or marquee supplier
  • A way in for the roaster

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Vegan option (Ve)

How it works

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Evening food at a Lockerley wedding often goes out just as the light fades: about 9:25pm at midsummer, 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
