A hog roast near New Zealand
Catered or do it yourself?
Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.
A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is usually easier.
Wedding hog roast in New Zealand, carved to order
A hog roast is made for marquee, barn and garden weddings near New Zealand. The roaster cooks outside under cover, and serve inside where the venue allows. Popular choices include spit-roast lamb, crackling and carved roast pork, and we are regularly asked to cater weddings in a family garden and second-day get-togethers.
Near New Zealand, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Let us know about access and ground. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

The menu, dish by dish
Spit-roast lamb
Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, and handy for anyone who does not eat pork.
Salads, potatoes and coleslaw
Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.
How we price a hog roast for your wedding
We do not use a fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:
- How many people are eating
- Menu choices and extras
- Whether you want china
- Time on site
Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

A hog roast or other catering?
If your venue does its own catering, ask whether outside caterers are allowed for evening food. There may be a fee. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.
Why New Zealand hosts choose us
- Timed around your day
- All the equipment comes with us
- Carved to order by a chef
- Choices for people who do not eat pork

Step by step
We arrive hours before you want to eat, since slow roasting cannot be rushed. Your guests will smell it long before they see it. For a summer wedding in New Zealand, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, which means an evening hog roast is normally served in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.
- Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
- We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
- We fit timings around your running order.
- We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
- We serve, tidy up and slip away.
Getting ready for the day

Working with your venue
Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll tell you what we can send.
If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.
New Zealand questions
Which station is closest to New Zealand?
Aylesbury station, about 0.8 miles south of the centre.
Do you cater at venues in the Chilterns National Landscape?
Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.
Do we need to provide electricity?
The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.
How do we prepare?
The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.
How much does a hog roast cost?
It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Send us the details and we will quote.
Can we just hire the roaster?
Yes, for confident cooks. We will explain the details with your quote.
Can you cook inside the marquee?
Always outside, away from the marquee walls. We can serve inside the marquee if the supplier agrees.
How soon do you get booked up?
As early as you can for summer weekends and December. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Send your date and we will check.
