Planning for dietary needs
With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:
- Share the menu with your venue coordinator
- Stuffing normally contains gluten
- Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
- Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
We will liaise with your venue coordinator, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.
Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.
Wedding hog roast in Ningwood, slow-roasted on site
A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It feels like an occasion. Whether it’s marquee receptions and home weddings, we will put together a menu of halloumi skewers, salads and spit-roast lamb.
Near Ningwood, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. That is where a hog roast shines: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. The hog is roasted on site at your wedding, slowly, over several hours.

Catered or do it yourself?
Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.
Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.
What comes off the roaster
Salads, potatoes and coleslaw
Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.
Crackling
For many people, the crackling is the best bit: golden, crunchy and salty.
What affects the price in Ningwood
Your quote depends on:
- The journey to the venue
- Menu choices and extras
- Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
- Whether you want china
The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.
Getting an accurate quote
Good details mean a good quote. Useful details:
- Where the event is
- The date and time of the event
- Anything the venue has asked for
- Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
Every wedding is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Ask us for a quote for your wedding: use our quote form.
What the cooking area needs
A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:
- The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
- Flat ground outside the reception for the roaster
- A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees
Ningwood is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey.
If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?
Next to a cold buffet, hot rolls carved to order go down much better. The main driver is numbers: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Questions from Ningwood
Can you roast near the sea around Ningwood?
Yes. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.
Is Ningwood too small for a hog roast?
No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.
Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?
The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.
Can you do gluten-free?
Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.
What’s the price?
Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.
Is mains power needed?
Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.
What about guests who do not eat pork?
We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.
Can we have both pork and lamb?
Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the hog.
The process
Expect a calm, organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up where we’ve agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. For a summer wedding in Ningwood, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.
- Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
- We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
- We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
- We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
- Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.
Getting ready for the day
- Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
- Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
- Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
