Wedding hog roast near Thorley

The carving station becomes a focal point: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It feels like an occasion. On the menu are halloumi skewers, spit-roast lamb and salads, and we’re regularly asked to cater the day after the wedding and the main wedding meal.

A wedding in a small place like Thorley frequently means a field, a barn or a family garden. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll give you the allergen information for every dish before you book.

Full catering or machine hire?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, and handy for anyone who does not eat pork.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.

Questions from Thorley

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes, of course. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Which station is closest to Thorley?

Lymington Pier station, about 4.9 miles north-west of the centre.

Do you serve the food?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

How much room do you need?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A picture helps.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: fill in our quote form.

Can we offer lamb too?

Of course: lamb and pork together give guests a choice.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Each event is priced on its own, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

Outside, always. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

The process

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. In Thorley, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 4:05pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Tell us whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival

How to get a price

The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

Working with your venue

Marquee suppliers normally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it is worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

Allergies and dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Note which guests don’t eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately

Running late? A slow roast can wait a little. Just keep us informed.

China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, quoted separately.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
