How it works

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so cooking does not depend on mains power, though a socket nearby is handy for lighting. In Ottershaw, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

How to prepare

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot

The menu, dish by dish

Stuffing and apple sauce

Stuffing and a dollop of apple sauce make the roll, just as they should.

Spit-roast lamb

With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which suits bigger events.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us

We will liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

Catered or do it yourself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and usually costs less per head. It still feels like a feast. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

What you get with us

  • Served at the time you choose
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours

Ottershaw questions

Which station is closest to Ottershaw?

The closest is Chertsey station, roughly 1.9 miles away.

We’re gathering after a service at Christ Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.

How big a hog will we need?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so a good estimate matters. The quote sets it out.

What about coeliacs?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. You will get allergen details for everything.

Who serves?

No need for your own staff: we carve, serve and tidy up.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Ask us for a quote.

Will our venue allow a hog roast?

Check with the venue first: some welcome outside caterers, others do not. We will sort the details with them.

What if it rains?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

What affects the price in Ottershaw
