Wedding hog roast in Strawberry Hill

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

Wedding hog roast in Strawberry Hill, carved to order

Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat. Whether it is weddings in a family garden and the main wedding meal, we will put together a menu of spit-roast lamb, new potatoes and rotisserie chicken for your guests.

London weddings around Strawberry Hill frequently mean a reception at a hired venue, a pub with a garden or a family home. The roaster needs an outdoor spot under cover, away from the building, so check with the venue early. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

Questions from Strawberry Hill

We’re gathering after a service at Holy Trinity Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can you do a hog roast in Marble Hill Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Check with them first.

Do you cover Strawberry Hill?

We do. Send us the address and we will confirm availability.

Do we need extra food?

We’ll plan quantities from your numbers, and the quote lists everything.

What’s the price?

Every booking is quoted individually, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We work back from when you want to eat, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

What space does the roaster need?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A picture helps.

Is a hog roast OK for a sit-down meal?

Yes. We serve it on plates with salads and potatoes, with china available, with our staff serving.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast is more relaxed and often better value. It still feels special. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups generally cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

What you get with us

  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Planned to your running order
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit

What happens on the day

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin crisps into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. Evening food at a Strawberry Hill wedding frequently goes out just as the light fades: sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

Each price is built from:

  • The journey to the venue
  • Numbers
  • Plates or china
  • How long the roast and service take

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

What to tell us

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • An estimate of numbers

Every wedding is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator

For evening food, we carve as the dancing gets going.

Catered or do it yourself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
