Common questions in Cocking Causeway

How far is Cocking Causeway from London?

Roughly 46 miles from the centre of London.

Do you cater at venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Where on site can you cook?

A car park, yard or grounds usually works, given level ground and clearance.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

Can you serve a fixed lunch break?

Tell us the numbers and the time and we’ll make it work.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You will get allergen details for everything.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

What comes with the hog roast?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

Corporate hog roast for your staff event in Cocking Causeway

Most teams have a set break, so we plan the roast to be ready on time. Rolls are the quickest way to serve. On the menu are crackling, spit-roast lamb and rotisserie chicken, and we are regularly asked to cater staff summer days and client and customer events.

Rural businesses around Cocking Causeway can be a long way from anywhere to buy lunch, so a hog roast lunch is welcome. The carving happens right in front of your staff, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

The process

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. For a staff lunch in Cocking Causeway, daylight isn’t an issue, but a winter evening event is dark by about 4:00pm, so evening events need a lit cooking area. Summer events have daylight until around 9:20pm.

  1. Tell us where, when, how many and when you eat.
  2. We check access and gas rules and quote.
  3. We set up early and roast through the morning.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve on time.
  5. We pack away and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Name a contact for the day

Working with your venue

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we will deal with on the day. We’ll keep you both updated.

What we serve, dish by dish

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Vegan staff can have a vegan burger or sausage, so everyone has something hot.

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: golden, crunchy and salty.

Space, access and the venue

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Level hardstanding or lawn
  • A named contact for the day
  • A safe distance from walls and vehicles

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Allergies and dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Tips:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Keep alternatives clearly labelled
  • Share the allergen information with the team

If the schedule moves, tell us: we can hold the roast for a short time.

Add rotisserie chicken or lamb for choice.

How we price a hog roast for your team

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The number of people

Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups usually cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • Dietary requirements
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Rough numbers

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the staff event is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a formal plated lunch, it is less formal and normally costs less. Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

Why book our hog roast in Cocking Causeway

  • Carved by our chef in front of your staff
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Timed around your day

DIY versus a catered hog roast

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
