Longlands questions

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What’s the nearest station to Longlands?

The closest is New Eltham station, roughly 0.8 miles away.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

What’s included?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

Can you cater our wrap?

We do, with lamb or chicken if you like.

Can you roast in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

How much will it be?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Ask us for a quote.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will talk it through when we quote.

How our film set catering works in Longlands

There are options for crew who don’t eat pork, and we provide allergen information for every dish. On the menu are new potatoes, rotisserie chicken and a vegan option, and we’re regularly asked to cater countryside locations and extended shoot days.

In Longlands, access to base can be tight, so tell us the route and any restrictions. The hog is roasted on site at your shoot, low and slow, for hours, then carved fresh for your crew.

How we price a hog roast for the crew

Each price is built from:

  • Time on site
  • Season and day of the week
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Plates or china

Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

Details that help

To check the date and the space, tell us:

  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Any venue rules
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • The address or postcode

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so it is easy to compare like for like. Use our quote form.

How the day works

Carving is part of the show: the hog is carved in front of your crew, with crackling for everyone who wants it. Early starts matter for a hog roast at base, and in December Longlands is dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Production sends us the location and call times.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We set up at base and roast through the morning.
  4. We serve when lunch is called.
  5. We clear our spot.

Preparing for the day

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

Planning for dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Share the allergen list with the crew
  • Keep vegetarian food labelled
  • Tell us who doesn’t eat pork

We follow location rules on vehicles and timings.

Ask for gluten-free rolls.

Is a hog roast right for your shoot?

At the end of a shoot, it is a relaxed way to finish. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. We quote every event individually, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Working with your venue

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it is worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
