Hog roast hire for Churt

Common questions in Churt

We’re gathering after a service at St John the Evangelist: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

Do you come out to small places like Churt?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Will there be enough to go round?

We size the roast to your numbers, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

Can you do gluten-free?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Is crackling included?

It is: the skin turns to crackling and everyone gets some.

How far ahead should we book?

Popular dates go early. But do ask even at short notice: fill in our quote form.

What if things run late?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

What’s included?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Hog roast hire in Churt, carved to order

Hog roast hire means a whole pig roasted slowly at your venue, over several hours, outdoors under cover. Then our chef carves it and the team serves it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. We are frequently asked to cater community events and garden parties and barbecues, with rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and hog roast rolls.

For a rural spot like Churt, a hog roast feels right at home. Let us know about access and ground conditions. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Find out who does not eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

You won’t need to worry about the food on the day. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

We can supply china instead of standard plates, at an extra cost.

What comes off the roaster

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb on the spit roasts gently for hours, and it’s carved the same way, frequently with mint sauce.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is normally easier.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

What happens on the day

On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Evenings in Churt stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We clear up and go.

How to prepare

  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

Before you choose a spot

  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Permission from the venue or landowner
  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Catered or DIY? With catering we roast, carve and serve; with hire you do the cooking. Most hosts choose catering for anything bigger than a family party. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why book with us

  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Timed around your day

Working with your venue

Booking for a club or group? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it is worth asking first. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

What affects the price in Churt

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Plates or china
  • Travel to Churt
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • How many people are eating

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.
