Wedding hog roast near Ash

A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: it can be held for a while once cooked, so the food copes with a delayed running order. For marquee receptions and small, informal weddings, we will put together a menu of carved roast pork, rotisserie chicken and crackling and more.

A farm or garden wedding near Ash suits a hog roast. We need a level spot and access. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

Organising for someone else?

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

For venues and planners, we’re happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

Planning the cooking spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Flat ground outside the reception for the roaster
  • A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees
  • A route to wheel equipment to the spot

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.

Questions from Ash

Which station is closest to Ash?

Ash station, about 0.5 miles north-east of the centre.

Is Ash close to London?

About 32 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

Will there be enough to go round?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

How much room do you need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will confirm the space with your quote.

Where do you cook at a marquee wedding?

Outside, under its own cover, a safe distance from the marquee. Serving inside is fine where allowed.

Is a hog roast OK for a sit-down meal?

It works well as a relaxed main meal, with lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside.

Can you roast in the rain?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Catered or do it yourself?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

A hog roast compared with other options

If your venue does its own catering, ask whether outside caterers are allowed for evening food. Some venues charge a fee. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Why us?

  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

  • Sides to make it a full meal

Choosing a hog roast caterer

The process

Your timings come first. If things run late, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so keep us posted on the day. Winter weddings in Ash are dark by about 3:55pm, so the route from the reception to the hog roast needs lighting, while a June wedding has light until about 9:20pm.

  1. Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

Before we arrive

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment

Rolls and stuffing typically contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Put a dietary question on the invitation

If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Just keep us informed.

Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in evening photos; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
