How our wedding hog roast works in Holly Green

Evening wedding food has one job: feed hungry dancers. Hog roast rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling do exactly that, and they’re easy to eat with a drink in hand. For the day after the wedding and weddings in a marquee, we’ll put together a menu of new potatoes, salads and crackling.

Near Holly Green, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Plates come as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

Should I cook it myself?

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Looking after everyone

Rolls and stuffing usually contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed

We’ll liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.

Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.

Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in Holly Green

Can you cater after a service at Church of the Holy Trinity?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

How far is Holly Green from London?

Roughly 37 miles from the centre of London.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

What if things run late?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will adjust.

Can we have both pork and lamb?

Lamb and chicken are both available as a second option.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.

How do you work out quantities?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll confirm everything in writing.

Space, access and the venue

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed
  • A level, open cooking spot outside the marquee or barn
  • Space well clear of tents and trees

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

For planners, venues and organisers

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we will tell you what we can send.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote depends on:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The date and time of year
  • How many people are eating
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site

The main driver is numbers: the price per head normally falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

What we need to know

To check the date and the space, we will need:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Your date and serving time
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • The venue or postcode

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Send us your details through our quote form.

How the day works

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. In Holly Green, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Tell us whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.

Before we arrive

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

How to get a price

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Tell us your date and we’ll check it: send us your details through our quote form.

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is there for anyone who’d rather not have pork, and children usually like it too.
