Slow-roasted pork in Isle of Dogs

How our wedding hog roast works in Isle of Dogs

A wedding hog roast can be the wedding breakfast, the evening food or both. We roast at the venue through the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the time you’ve set. Typical bookings include late-night wedding food and post-wedding gatherings, serving rotisserie chicken, crackling and halloumi skewers.

For a wedding in Isle of Dogs, the venue’s rules decide where a hog roast can go. A courtyard, garden or yard is ideal, and we’ll agree the details with them. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll give you the allergen information for every dish.

For event organisers in Isle of Dogs

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

A hog roast or other catering?

If your venue does its own catering, ask whether outside caterers are allowed for evening food. Some venues charge a fee. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups generally cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why us?

  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • We bring everything to cook and serve

What we serve, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which suits bigger events.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Our vegetarian option is halloumi and vegetable skewers: squeaky, salty cheese with colourful veg, in a roll or on a plate.

How the day works

From setting up to the last roll, we look after the food, so you can enjoy your wedding in Isle of Dogs. Evening food at a Isle of Dogs wedding frequently goes out just as the light fades: sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

Before we arrive

  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Name a contact for the day

Isle of Dogs questions

What if our house in Isle of Dogs has no side access?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard normally works. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we’ll advise.

Which station is closest to Isle of Dogs?

The closest is Greenwich station, roughly 0.7 miles away.

Can you do our evening wedding food?

It is one of our most popular wedding bookings. Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling go down well after dancing.

Where do you cook at a marquee wedding?

The roaster stays outdoors on level ground.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Will there be enough to go round?

We size the roast to your numbers, so a good estimate matters. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

How much room do you need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

What a hog roast costs

There’s no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • How many people are eating
  • The journey to the venue
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Access to the cooking area

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, and the quote reflects that.

Getting an accurate quote

Here’s what we will ask:

  • The address or postcode
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Roughly how many people
  • Anything the venue has asked for

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so it is easy to compare like for like. Fill in our quote form.

How to compare hog roast caterers

Looking after everyone

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Some ideas:

  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator

Running late? A slow roast can wait a little. Just keep us informed.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.
