About our wedding hog roast in Kingston Gorse

Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat. Typical bookings include evening receptions and garden weddings at home, serving rotisserie chicken, salads and spit-roast lamb.

There is something special about a country wedding near Kingston Gorse, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so nobody in your party has to serve.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

For a sit-down meal, ask for china, quoted separately.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a wedding barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together without batches coming off a grill. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

Why Kingston Gorse hosts choose us

  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Working with your venue

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep everyone in the loop.

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

Catered or do it yourself?

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Kingston Gorse questions

Can you roast near the sea around Kingston Gorse?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Is Kingston Gorse too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What space does the roaster need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We will confirm the space with your quote.

Do we need to provide electricity?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Let us know what’s on site.

Do you serve the food?

You do not need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.

Where will the roaster go at our wedding?

Outside, under its own cover, a safe distance from the marquee. We can serve inside the marquee if the supplier agrees.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

Hours rather than minutes. You’ll know our arrival time in advance.

Will there be enough to go round?

We size the roast to your numbers, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

What a hog roast costs

The price comes down to:

  • Numbers
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Season and day of the week
  • How long the roast and service take

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Details that help

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The venue or postcode
  • Any venue rules

Numbers not final yet? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Fill in our quote form.

About the food

Spit-roast lamb

Adding lamb gives people a choice of two roasts, which suits bigger events.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls make a hog roast easy to eat anywhere. Gluten-free rolls can be provided on request.

Step by step

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. For a summer wedding in Kingston Gorse, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

How to prepare

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
