A hog roast near Oving
DIY versus a catered hog roast
Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.
Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.
Wedding hog roast in Oving, carved to order
Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat. Whether it is evening receptions and marquee weddings, we will put together a menu of salads, spit-roast lamb and rotisserie chicken for your guests.
Rural weddings around Oving have a magic of their own, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Common questions in Oving
Is Oving too small for a hog roast?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.
Which station is closest to Oving?
Chichester station, about 2.7 miles west of the centre.
How do we prepare?
Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.
Will guests be full?
Quantities are based on your guest list, and the quote lists everything.
Can you work around our timings?
We work back from when you want to eat, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.
Is there a non-pork option?
There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.
Do we need our own staff?
No need for your own staff: we carve, serve and tidy up.
Do we need to provide electricity?
Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.
A hog roast or other catering?
Some couples have a formal meal and a hog roast in the evening; others have the hog roast as the main event. Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

How the day works
People love watching the carving: the hog is carved in front of your guests, with crackling for everyone who wants it. For a summer wedding in Oving, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 4:00pm.
- Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
- We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
- We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
- We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
- Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.
Getting ready for the day
- Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
- Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
- Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
How to get a price

Planning for dietary needs
Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:
- Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
- Share the menu with your venue coordinator
- Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
- If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Your coordinator can keep us posted.
Some couples add lights around the serving area.
The menu, dish by dish
Stuffing and apple sauce
Sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce are the classic partners, balancing the rich, salty pork.
Rolls and gluten-free rolls
Rolls make a hog roast easy to eat anywhere. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.
For planners, venues and organisers
Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.
If you’re a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers.
Why choose wedding hog roast in Oving?
You don’t need a kitchen, which suits marquees, barns and gardens.
