DIY versus a catered hog roast
Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.
You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.
Step by step
It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and get on with roasting and serving. Golden-hour photos in Tangmere at midsummer come around 9:20pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September.
- Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
- We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
- We fit timings around your running order.
- The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
- We serve, tidy up and slip away.
Before we arrive
- Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
- Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
- Send final numbers in good time

About the food
Rolls and gluten-free rolls
Rolls make a hog roast easy to eat anywhere. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.
Stuffing and apple sauce
Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing go with the pork perfectly. Note that stuffing normally contains gluten.
Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
Next to a wedding barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together. Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups usually cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.
Why us?
- The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
- Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
- Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
- Sides to make it a full meal
