Planning for dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Put the allergen list where people can see it
  • Find out how many don’t eat pork, so we can bring chicken, lamb or vegetarian options
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans

We set up on the agreed spot, frequently first thing, then roast through the morning.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Corporate hog roast for your staff event in Park Royal

For a client event, a hog roast carved by a chef makes an impression. Add china and sides for a more formal feel. On the menu are salads, coleslaw and rotisserie chicken, and we’re frequently booked for thank-you lunches and retirement do’s.

In Park Royal, lunch breaks are frequently short, so we roast ahead and carve fast. Let us know about access and site rules. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

Common questions in Park Royal

Can you get a hog roast into a London garden in Park Royal?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard typically works. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we’ll advise.

Could you cook in St. Raphael's Edible Garden?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Ask them first.

What paperwork do you provide for our site?

Let us know your site’s requirements, and we’ll tell you what we can send.

When do you start roasting?

Hours rather than minutes. You’ll know our arrival time in advance.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

Outside, always. Serving indoors is generally fine if the venue is happy.

How far ahead should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Send your date and we will check.

What about staff who do not eat pork?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

What about coeliacs?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

The process

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and get on with roasting and serving. In Park Royal, summer evenings stay light until about 9:20pm, which suits a team barbecue-style evening. In late September, the light goes at about 7:05pm.

Preparing for the day

  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

Full catering or machine hire?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

For event organisers in Park Royal

Marquee suppliers typically set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

If you are booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • A safe distance from walls and vehicles
  • Approval from facilities for gas equipment
  • A covered area or canteen for wet weather

Park Royal is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.
