Common questions in Bradenham

How far is Bradenham from London?

About 33 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Is Bradenham too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Can you roast in the rain?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we do not offer halal meat.

Where do you cook at a marquee wedding?

We cook outside, never inside the marquee.

Do we need our own staff?

You don’t need anyone else: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

What if things run late?

We will be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll adjust.

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Wedding hog roast in Bradenham, carved to order

As a main meal, the hog roast is served on plates: carved pork with salads, new potatoes or roast potatoes, on china if you’d like. For relaxed, low-key weddings and late-night wedding food, we’ll put together a menu of salads, crackling and rotisserie chicken for your guests.

There is something special about a country wedding near Bradenham, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. We plan the timings around your day, working back from when you want to eat.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:

  • Clear space away from the marquee and any branches
  • A way in for the roaster
  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

What comes off the roaster

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is a simple, popular alternative to pork, roasted until golden.

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

The process

We get there well ahead of service, because a whole hog takes hours to roast. Your guests will smell it long before they see it. Golden-hour photos in Bradenham at midsummer come around 9:25pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:05pm in late September.

  1. Tell us whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. The venue and we agree where the roaster goes.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.

How to prepare

  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

What a hog roast costs

The biggest factors are:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • How many people are eating
  • Crockery choices

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

What we need to know

When you enquire, it helps to include:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The address or postcode
  • The date and time of the event
  • A photo of the cooking area

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Send us your date for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Rolls and stuffing normally contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options

You will not have to think about the food. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in evening photos; tell your venue or marquee supplier.
