How our wedding hog roast works in Chinatown

A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: a cooked roast holds for a while, so a long speech will not ruin the food. For post-wedding gatherings and evening food after the first dance, we can cook rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and carved roast pork.

London weddings around Chinatown frequently mean a reception at a hired venue, a pub with a garden or a family home. We need an outdoor cooking area clear of the venue, so check with the venue early. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

A hog roast compared with other options

A common mix is a plated meal followed by an evening hog roast; others have the hog roast as the main event. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why us?

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Planned to your running order

Read our prices page or the cost guide.

The process

Expect a calm, organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we’ve agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. Golden-hour photos in Chinatown at midsummer come around 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:05pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Before we arrive

  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

Weddings in Chinatown: venues, ceremonies and travel

Chinatown is about 1 mile east of City of Westminster, in Greater London. We cater weddings of every size in Chinatown. Chinatown is one of 764 places in Greater London we cover.

Marrying at St Anne's Church? A reception in a garden, barn or marquee close by gives the roaster an outdoor spot. Wedding photographers in the area often head for St. James's Park Lake, and the countryside around Chinatown suits an outdoor reception.

Here we cover the W1F, W1D and W1T postcode area. From Duck Lane, Drury Lane and Bruton Lane or a nearby road, we can set up and roast there. With the A4 and A301 close by, Chinatown is simple for us to get to with the roaster. Nearby, we also cater weddings in Soho (1 mile north), St James's (1 mile south), West End (1 mile north-east), Seven Dials (1 mile north-east) and St Giles (1 mile north-east). Larger places within reach include Kensington (3 miles west), Shoreditch (3 miles north-east), Walthamstow (7 miles north-east), Hoxton (3 miles north-east), Whitechapel (3 miles east) and Hampstead (4 miles north-west).

A little further out are St James Workhouse (within half a mile north-west) and Leverian collection (under half a mile south-east). Within reach you will find Barnsbury Wood and St. James's Park Lake.

  • Local schools include LITE Regal International School (0.6 miles west) and Harris Westminster Sixth Form (0.8 miles south)
  • Local pubs include Waxy O'Connor's pub (under half a mile south-west)
  • Parks and local facilities nearby include London Library (within half a mile south-west) and Westminster St James (less than half a mile south-west)

Before you choose a spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • Space well clear of tents and trees
  • Light near the carving station after dark
  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed

As a London location, Chinatown is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, so it stays hot and juicy.

Chinatown questions

Could you cook in St Anne's Churchyard?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Which station is closest to Chinatown?

Tottenham Court Road station, in Chinatown itself.

What if our venue has its own caterer?

Your venue decides: rules vary. We’ll talk to them about the cooking spot.

What happens after service?

Our staff clear up after service, and leave the area tidy.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Is a hog roast enough for a wedding?

With sides, it is a full wedding breakfast; in the evening, rolls on their own work well.

What if things run late?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Can we add a second roast?

Lamb and chicken are both available alongside the hog.

Working with your venue

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep everyone in the loop.

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Distance from us
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Whether you want china

Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • A photo of the cooking area
  • Your date and serving time
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The address or postcode

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Use our quote form.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Some guests will not eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, quoted separately.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
